Day 10

In John 10, Jesus used two powerful metaphors to reveal his identity and mission. First, he presented himself as the gate, the one true entrance through which people discover real and abundant life. This stands in sharp contrast to those who would lead others astray, as he made clear in John 10:10: "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." He then portrayed himself as the Good Shepherd, one who is not merely employed to watch the flock but is so deeply committed to it that he would willingly lay down his life for his sheep. Unlike the hired hand who flees at the first sign of danger, Jesus stands firm. He concluded his teaching by grounding his authority in the Father, a claim that intensified the opposition of the Jewish leaders.

God, thank you for making a way. Thank you for continuing to guide us in the way of life even when we run. Continue to show us what it means to follow you and trust that your way is better than the way of this world. Amen.
