Day 9
Listen to Today’s Reading:
Have you ever tried to fool someone into believing you were something you were not? I think we’ve all done it. We all want people to believe that we’re smarter, wiser, and a better person than we are sometimes. We have all tried to fool someone. But let me tell you who the easiest person to fool is—yourself. For those of us who call ourselves Jesus followers, we can fool ourselves into thinking we are more like Jesus than we actually are.
Jesus says that when it comes to being a true follower of him, it’s doing that makes the difference, not saying or pretending it. Following Jesus and building a strong foundation of faith happens when we do what he says.
Today’s Passage: Matthew 7:24–27
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Jesus illustrates here that faith is meant to be lived out, not just talked about.
Reflect: What is something that you know Jesus wants you to do? What’s holding you back?
Pray: Ask him to show you what he wants you to do and to give you the courage to do it.
